Hair condition, treatments and hair health1. I get confused when I buy my shampoo and conditioner because of the vast array of choices and price differences. Which one should I buy? Not having seen your hair it is very difficult to answer, because everybody has different needs according to their hair type and existing condition. But I will give you the best advice I can, sight unseen. EXAMPLE 1 If your hair is coloured or permed we would recommend a product specifically designed for that, because they have different ingredients that are necessary to maintain softness and shine on chemically treated hair, so you may need more moisture rather than a high protein based product. If you bought a product with a high protein base (that may not be right for your hair) the hair can almost become drier and more brittle because of too much protein, so it is vital to get some good professional advice before you buy. EXAMPLE 2 If your hair appears oily make sure you get a product specifically for that condition. By the way, NO ONE HAS OILY HAIR! You are just producing too much sebum (oil) on your scalp, and when you brush/comb it, the oil is distributed along the length of hair, making it appear oily. Beware of some products marketed for ‘oily hair’. Some brands on the market just strip the scalp of all the natural oils, which seems a temporary fix, BUT, the skin/scalp is a funny thing. If the scalp has been 'stripped' of natural oil, it (the scalp) sends a message to your brain that says, ‘I’m dry, so for my scalp protection, pump out some more oil now’ and then the cycle starts all over again. These products are not unlike an astringent that you could use on oily skin. The only problem with lots of these so called ‘oily hair’ products is that not only do they strip the oil from the scalp, but they also strip it from the whole head. RESULT: Very dry, brittle ends, and you’re still stuck with the same oily scalp problem, that returns very quickly. At Scamps Hair Studio we stock a Wella SP (System Professional) range of products especially designed for this problem, which works at gently easing the oily scalp issue without stripping all the natural goodness out of the other hair. The entire SP range is specifically designed for many common hair and scalp problems, so come and see us now for FREE hair care advice. You’re not alone! EXAMPLE 3 If your hair is fine or flyaway, make sure you don’t buy a heavy conditioner that will weigh the hair down. You may not even need to condition as regularly. If you buy the right moisturising shampoo, sometimes it’s not necessary to condition every time you shampoo. Ask us about what’s just right for you. EXAMPLE 4 If you have course hair, (it’s usually dry as well) you will need a heavy moisturising shampoo and conditioner to help keep it under control. We would also recommend a regular treatment/mask to keep it soft, shiny and more manageable. At Scamps Hair Studio we guarantee to solve your product choice dilemma, and make your 'crowning glory' look and feel shiny and healthy, so call us now for FREE advice. PRICE VARIANCE The difference in price is because of the varying quality of ingredients manufacturers put in their products and the concentration of the product. Highly concentrated products (usually thicker in consistency) usually need much less product to do the same (or better) job as the cheaper alternatives, so therefore it is generally more cost effective to buy a good quality more concentrated product, because you use less each time you shampoo or condition. This is why hairdressers don’t buy their products at supermarkets even though they may appear to be cheaper than some salon brands. Our salons at Aberfoyle Park and Morphett Vale both stock a wide range of products incuding Wella, Tigi, PPS, and more, all at affordable prices. Compare the value! 2. I have my hair coloured, so should I have a treatment regularly? As most chemical services can dry the hair a little, it is important to replace the moisture and protein content that may have been reduced by the use of hair colouring agents. We recommend all our colour clients have a treatment at least once a month to maintain good condition and a healthy shine. This can be done as an ‘in salon’ treatment or as a ‘do it yourself’ at home. By maximising your hair condition, your colour will last longer too. Also for non-colouring clients, depending on the texture and condition of your hair, treatments/masks are excellent, particularly in the summer months when your hair is exposed to more UV rays from the sun, and salt water, etc. There are many of these treatments available for all hair types, so make sure you get the one that’s just right for you. At Scamps Hair Studio our hairstylists only use Wella professional haircolour in semi permanent and permanent colour and are happy to offer no obligation, FREE advice to ensure your hair stays healthy and shiny. 3. I don’t use any chemicals on my hair but it still gets a bit dry, and sometimes looks dull. Why? Our harsh climate, hard water, blow drying, swimming (salt or chlorine), etc can all add to the drying effect on your hair. It is important that the natural protein, moisture and oils, found in healthy hair be replaced if dryness is apparent. At Scamps we would suggest you occasionally have a treatment to maintain a healthy balance. There are many treatments available for different needs. You may need to repair heat or sun damaged hair with a concentrated protein-based product, or replace some lost moisture, and improve shine. There are several excellent salon products available that contain both moisture and protein, so ask your hairdresser what’s right for you. Most women (including me) have unwanted products in their bathroom, so to avoid wasting money on the wrong products, ask us for some FREE advice. PLEASE NOTE: Free advice is NOT available at the supermarket.SPECIALISED CONDITIONING TREATMENTS If you really want to spoil yourself, why not take advantage of one of our 'in salon' treatments. For the ultimate luxury, pamper yourself with a deep conditioning treatment using vitamin enriched cream and natural oils. This fabulous service includes a soothing shampoo, 15 minutes of relaxing, decadent and stimulating, head, neck, and shoulder massage, followed by a steamer/heat process for 10 minutes. You won't believe how great your hair looks and feels after this service and it's an experience you won’t forget in a hurry. PS If you can't justify spending extra money on this fabulous ultimate pampering treatment service (that we girls all deserve now and then) you could try asking your partner to spoil you and give you one at home for free. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! Even though I own my own salon I don't get to indulge myself very often and I have to tell you, there is no way my husband has ever given me a head massage, so if your partner does it for you, hang onto them because they're obviously a 'gem' At Scamps our ‘in salon’ treatments range from only $7.00 for the fabulous 'Moroccan Oil' up to $28.00 for the ultimate bliss. Our hairdressing salons at Morphett Vale and Aberfoyle Park stock the fabulous NEW 'Morrocan Oil' leave-in treatment and you won't believe the AMAZING SHINE and SILKY FEEL of your hair after just one treatment.
